Meet Antica Spralja, a Flockjay Tech Fellow from our seventh class and current SDR for hire. She shared a few details about her journey with us below. Her sales trainers had this to share:

What did life look like before you found Flockjay?

Before Flockjay, I was an intake volunteer for a local non-profit and an active job seeker looking to break into tech. My hobbies include outdoor walks anywhere, wine-tasting at local wineries, meditating and traveling to somewhere new.

I grew up in a predominately Asian immigrant community in LA county and was raised by a Thai Buddhist mother and Croatian Catholic father. My unique and diverse background exposed me to different ideas, beliefs, and perspectives which fostered a strong desire to connect with other people and shaped my career ambitions.

I started off my professional career in non-profits and did a year of AmeriCorps service where I exceeded fundraising quotas and coordinated stewardship events.

However, after a two-year sabbatical that involved looking after my father’s health and pursuing better self-care, I decided I wanted real professional growth and a challenge. So I looked towards breaking into tech as an SDR.

With an intention to take my new career ambitions seriously, I looked into online programs that offered training in tech sales. This is when I came across Flockjay’s bootcamp.

After reading their mission of improving diversity in tech, I decided it was the right program for me. After completing the application process, I got in. I’m now ready and excited to break into tech sales with all the relevant skill sets I have gained from Flockjay and beyond. 

What past accomplishments are you proud of? 

Not only am I a first-generation college graduate, but I’m also the first person in my family to obtain a master’s degree. I earned a Master’s of Science in Global Affairs from NYU in 2015. I utilized superb research, written, and communication abilities as well as excellent time management skills to accomplish this goal.

I am also proud of my year with AmeriCorps VISTA, where I broke fundraising records as a Development Coordinator for Boston Cares. I coordinated the organization’s first-ever stewardship event and exceeded fundraising quotas for that year by $18k, raising a total of $33k in new or increased donations.

I performed extensive research on stakeholders and supported outreach to 550 prospects. I was persistent in learning new ways to be resourceful with my time and mastering new software and skills to reach my goals and exceed expectations.

What most excites you about your future SDR role?

I’m excited to support others and myself to reach goals and break records! I’m looking forward to putting in the work to become a top sales development representative by connecting with as many people as I can and becoming a product expert for my future company.

Advice for someone who wants to break into tech?

A quote by Ralph Waldo Emmerson comes to mind:

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

If there is genuine interest and desire to break into tech, then get excited! Be excited to learn the skills, techniques, and tricks behind tech sales and the industry in general. And then get to work! This excitement will carry you far in your ambitions and fuel the curiosity.
