Meet Baxter Kindler-Balmy, a Flockjay Tech Fellow from our eighth class and current SDR for hire. He shared a few details about his journey with us below. His sales trainers had this to share:

“Baxter is an incredible Tech Fellow who has shown resilience during our program. He is not afraid of new challenges; he is continuously planning for self-improvement and seeks innovative solutions. Baxter is hard-working, dedicated, and goal-oriented. He works at perfecting his skills 24/7 and achieves his goals by never stopping, finding others to practice with, and always asking for feedback.” 

What did life look like before you found Flockjay?

Growing up in San Francisco, watching the tech industry establish itself and transform the city into the hub of innovation always captivated me. Seeing the incorporation of technological advancements into our lives made me consistently wonder “What will be the next step towards discovering and uncovering the possibilities and the unknown?”

Being a lifelong athlete, not only did I develop a highly competitive personality, but also discovered a lot about what it truly was to be successful in a team dynamic. Through competitions, I learned how rewarding winning was, and also the beneficial lessons you learn through defeats and how to handle them.

Before Flockjay, I spent my time serving as my grandmother’s caretaker and taking classes at CCSF, continuing my education towards a marketing degree after studying at DePaul University. During that same time, I worked part-time at a local bakery, serving upwards of 100 customers daily. This position is where I came to discover my passion for sales. Using sales skills like building lasting relationships with customers, conversing, and conducting discovery techniques like BANT, solution selling, and rapport building. 

What past accomplishments are you proud of? 

As a dyslexic thinker, I faced a lot of moments of adversity, challenges, and setbacks to be where I am today. Each of those moments contributed to creating my character and gave me the strength to never quit. I worked through the moments of doubt throughout school and achieved acceptance into DePaul University, my top choice college.

I learned that having the resilience to step back up to the plate the next day and push even harder is not always easy, but it’s imperative for success. 

I am proud of all the insights and knowledge I’ve gained and expanded upon through my time at the bakery and throughout Flockjay’s training program.

I am also proud to have made it to where I am today, and eager to take all that I’ve learned and apply it to new challenges as I embark on the next chapter of my life.

What excites you most about a future SDR role?

I am most excited about building new relationships and connections, taking on new challenges, immersing myself in the world of tech, mastering the art of sales, and providing solutions to help eliminate pain points that others are facing.

Advice for someone who wants to break into tech?

If you’re looking to launch your career in the tech industry and you feel prepared to commit your time, efforts, and energy towards achieving that dream, channel that motivation and put it into Flockjay! I promise when you finish, you’ll be happy you chose this path. Disregard any doubts you may have, dive into the challenge, and see how rewarded you’ll feel! Your future will be determined by the actions you take today, let this program give you the same opportunity that it’s given me and so many others.
